The brick and roofing tile industry have long used warmer tunnels
/ vestibules and preheaters to prevent reabsorbtion of moisture into the ware before it is
fired.
Fast fire Ltd. have designed and manufactured a number of warmer tunnels and preheaters. Manufactured from a substantial steel frame insulated with mineral wool, the warmers have several ways of increasing the temperature of the cars such that reabsorbtion is prevented.
Firstly we can utilize waste heat from a nearby tunnel kiln, usually the under car cooling. This means the only energy required is that needed to run a fan.
Secondly, a separate burner can be fitted to the warmer so that it becomes separate to from the kiln. This obviously means a more complex control system but eliminates interaction with the kiln systems.
The third method of heating the warmer tunnel is to have a closed system with doors each end in which the air is simply recirculated from one end of the tunnel to the other. The residual heat in the large mass of the kiln cars and ware slowly warms the air. This is only practical for low temperature applications. The door operation can be manually controlled or controlled by the track automation system.
