Pusher Batt Kilns

Pusher batt kilns are essentially continuous kilns designed for small, high volume products such as ferrites, insulators, electronic components and many other types of technical ceramics. The basic principle of this type of kiln (using the one shown below as an example) is that the product is loaded onto tray-like batts which are pushed through the kiln on a solid refractory hearth by a pushing arm. This arm is geared to push approximately 305mm in 1 hour. This speed can be changed through the use of an inverter drive on the pusher arm motor. These kilns are almost exclusively electrically powered and in this case fitted with 36 silicon carbide elements.

130 kW electric pusher batt kiln.

Eight zone thyristor control with one cooling zone. Single phase firing.

8.7m long with a useful setting area of 385mm wide by 150mm high.

Firing technical ceramics.

Each zone was controlled by an Eurotherm 900 Series temperature controller and was also fitted with an ammeter.

The kiln also had an element checking system that could identify faults on individual elements.

A 12 channel chart recorder is fitted as standard.

This kiln was also fitted with PLC controlled loading and unloading automation.
